These where the gun's around here in the late 50's early to mid 60's. Can anyone give me a small breakdown between the two? All the old time bird hunter's carried these if they didn't have an A-5. They must of been fine gun's for the time. Did one have a fiberglass barrel? Thank's for any help.

the model 50 came in 2 configurations, the standard steel receiver and an alloy receiver called the featherweight.
the model 59 was an alloy receiver and a fiberglass bbl. you can put a m50 bbl on a 59, but you cant put a 59 bbl on a 50. the forearms arent the same inlet. there are some minor differences between the 50 and 59 trigger group and there are slight differences between the bolts. 50's tend to be butt heavy due to the recoil system in the buttstock .
the 50/59's still hold some records for the being least recoil 12ga made....and 50 years ahead of its time.

I have one, and bought another one for a friend. We both live the Model 50. The recoil system it has is very different. I don't think any other shotgun has the same system. Recoil is very mild, not like the other recoil operated models, like the A5 and clones.
Model 59, most of them that I saw for sale at Gunbroker, had cracked receivers.

they cracked because owners dont know they are suppose to change the mainspring when it compresses to under 10.5"
I happened onto the model 50, and think it's amazing. Can't seem to miss with my 12 gauge standard I/C, but it is certainly butt heavy. I have an identical lightweight (serial ends in A), don't shoot as well with it. Had a 59, but it was just a bit too odd for me (the gold color trigger guard, superlight barrel, but it was certainly different. Neat guns that can be had for under $300 often now.
as i mentioned, if anyone wants pretty ones for investments....lmk. im thinning out my heard.

Wasn’t the 59 also the first to offer screw in choke tubes? I’ve had several, I really like them.
