Looking for a all around semi auto 12 gauge for deer and birds. Area i am uses buckshot for deer and want something for ducks as well. Have been looking at the Beretta a300, anyone have suggestions or pros and cons of different setups?

From what others have reported, the A300 should work fine. I have never owned one but most people report good results.

It also depends on what you want to spend. There are many inertia based semi autos most made in Turkey that are functioning fine. I own and shoot a Retay that serves me for 95% of all my hunting needs. It has been flawless.

If you want to spend more for the Benelli name, there are some good guns from them.

In the gas auto area, I had a Tristar that never missed a beat in over 2,000 shells fired and the new owner is still using it. It too is made in Turkey.

On the upper end of gas auto pricing you have the FABARM L4S (made in Italy) in various configurations. They are excellent and in my opinion a definite step up from any Beretta semi auto.

I guess you should first decide on whether you want to shoot a gas auto or an inertia system gun and go from there. Good luck.

eastcoastdad, you might as well learn, i think outside the box. falling into rank and file with common guns of the time doesnt appeal to me.
2 old american guns will outlast anything euro.
so dont be offended.
there is a wonderful thing called choice in america. i just wanted to remind you of that.

I prefer a classic shptgun over anything new. Like Bobski said, the Winchester Model 50 is a good choice. Strong and reliable. You just need to clean the floating chamber after long use, and adjust the recoil spring correctly.

I'm not very fond of semiautos, prefer pumps. But the Win Model 50 is one that I like very much. Bought one a few years ago and recommended it to my brother. Found him another and he loves it. And the price of both combined was 300 hundo!

Another choice is a classic pump. A Remington 870 Wingmaster, a Winchester Model 12, Ithaca 37, Remington Model 31, or even a more modern Browning BPS. I think you could find any of those for under 400.

LOL!

I have over 20 shotguns, don't remember how many exactly, but most of them are classified as C&Rs. Newer guns don't appeal to me. I prefer classic shotguns, when many of them were hand fitted, all wood and metal, and made to last for many years to come. Hunting, for example, with a 100+ years old shotgun, that works like the day it was made, and thinking how many birds it downed, how many hunters used it before me, it's a feeling that I won't get with a new gun. And I'm pretty sure they will be used many years after my passing.

Anyway, I look everyday for another prospect to add to my collection, like a Stevens Model 30, a Winchester Model 25, Browning Double Auto, or if I'm VERY lucky, a Sjögren...!

The Beretta A 300 isn’t Euro Trash.
Best, handling, soft shooting, adjustability.
I wouldn’t go near an 1100 after owning an A300. More reliable by far than an 1100 with a much simpler gas system that has wider range load. By far much, much easier to take down and maintain than those old dinosaur 1100’s.
Let’s not forget Italian shotgun barrels are the worlds best.
