Recently picked this up out of a buddy's pawn shop

It is a Winchester Model 37 12 gauge with a 32 inch barrel.

Now the story behind why I am so excited to bring it home...

My father is the young lad pictured with an identical model 37 below. When this picture was taken my grandfather had recently given it to him telling him that when he was big enough to shoot it by himself, it was his. Unfortunately the one in the picture was lost in a house fire in the 70s. I have spent many years looking for a model37 with 32 inch barrel to replace his. I am going to clean this one up nice and give it to him for his birthday this year.

Now for the question...

Any idea why someone did this

sometime over the years?

People do all sorts of weird crap to their guns. If I had to take a wild guess Id say they were trying to install some home brew hillbilly sighting system

This is such a great story. My dad has an identical Model 37 (minus the odd scratch... people are odd, and do odder things) and I hope that it will be mine one day (hopefully many, many, many years from now, though).

Thanks for sharing!
