Bob,
My first shotgun was a double barrel 20 gauge. Santa brought it to me. I was 12.

I traded that gun in for a Winchester Model 50 a few years later. I still have it. I bet it's has ~1000 rounds thru it. It's seen bad weather. It's been dropped in the mud. It has patina. :D I don't remember it ever misfiring or jamming.

Bob,
I know this is a shotgun thread. :D

I guess that it was about the time that I bought my Winchester Model 94 lever rifles as a primary hunting (deer in GA) weapon and then when I got interested in the old design.

I know the modern stuff is better. I still prefer the older design. ;)

:D

Sorry, but to me the Winchester Model of 1894 is good. And like the Winchester 50; this category is currently priced well below the replacement market.

I am proud to have two 94's and a 50.

My dad gave me his way back when. When I was a lad back in 1959 or 1960 I used to accompany him hunting. I still have it and use it at my clubs Turkey Shoots. It's helped me bring home the turkey more than once. Way too heavy to lug around in the field, (all those darn steel parts!). It's one well made shotgun, They don't ( and can't afford) to make them like that anymore!

heres one of my loaner guns being used by one of my shooters. he left his chokes at home for his o&u. (one of my pet peeves about a screw in's value)

btw, he came in 1st place with this one.

I'll go first.

The Winchester Model 50 in 12 gauge is one of the best shotguns ever made.

It does it's job with no complaints and ignores the pundits that may think that they could have drastically changed history.

I went to a bird hunt a few weeks ago in south Georgia. There were a lot of fancy upscale $5000 Italian shotguns.

The Winchester Model 50 did twice as well as the expensive shotguns. ;) We would have probably had to go eat at the local McDonalds except for the Winchester Model 50s.

Own one too. displayed it on this site some time ago Nice useable shotgun, its a pre-64 FW and sports a FC 30"bbl' Clean like new. No scratches etc..
tempted to have bbl cut to 26 or 28 and chokes IC for grouse or skeet. built like a rock. nothing cheap about it. My only wish is that it was a sixteen instead of twelve, I do not believe they made them in sixteen.

No did not cut bbl !! never. not a good idea !
