Let me start at the beginning. When I bought my XD several weeks ago, I had never been delayed before. Suddenly, I was. And I was angry. There I stood with a CCW license, shooting the breeze with the clerk about my colt 1911 (even let him shoot it), and used my CCW as id to buy.

Today, I found a used Remington 870 Express Super Mag. For the price I was like hell yeah! and a few box of 00 box too!!! Used my brand new state ID (I don't like driving).

No. Delayed......AGAIN.

How many effin background checks do I have to pass before they stop delaying me??? WTF????? Why am I delayed now every fricken time?

1. I am a combat veteran.
2. I had/possibly still have a security clearance.
3.I have a valid license to CC a handgun.
4. I own a truckload of guns.
5. I have an uncommon last name.
6. I JUST BOUGHT A FRIGGEN GUN!!!!!

This issue is starting to get me very heated. Tips, suggestions or advice anyone? I would also like to track down a spare barrel, preferably rifled with rifle sights.

I can't tell you for sure but I was told by a gun shop owner that if your social security # is close to someone else that shouldnt have a gun that would delay it. Sounds funny to me but might be why you get delayed

Yeah you might be right. I know it could be any number of things. The system is any number of things....and broken is one of them.

It could also be identity theft. They just want to make sure you are the real you and not the fake you.

they have 2 data bases I had 4/5 of my buys delayed then was told about this and to ask the sales person to ask the checker to check the other data base. sometimes they will and when they do the sale gos though. also having/had/possibly still have a security clearance puts a flag on the data base the checker is to look at the 2nd one but their gubberment workers and lazy.

Anyone else think it's kinda funny that some states have a "3-day wait" to buy a gun so someone can't get one while they are still angry.

The states that don't have a wait time have people getting mad because they can't get one without the hassle.

Of course, I had a background check that happened to be very near someone else in the store numerically. Somehow got mixed up, but my denial turned out to be someone else' altogether.

I am always.. ALWAYS... ALWAYS delayed as well.. I have a clearance and I get Federal background checks done on me 6-8 times a year as well as constant credit checks and I am always getting delayed... its like the more vetting you have done the more they want to check you out... It was rare to get a approval in less than 3-4 days for me for a while... I then quit putting my SSN on my paperwork (optional in VA) and my wait time dropped to about 3 hours.... not sure why but it works... just an FYI.. not sure if it would help any body else or not...

A buddy of mine had similar issues; his record is clean as clean can be, but he always got delays.

He ended up getting a UPIN...hasn't had an issue since.

In Kentucky if you have a vaid ccw permit they don't call anything in, just paperwork

Oh no, that can't be right. NICS is a good thing. It makes it so that felons never get firearms and helps liberals sleep at night.

at least, that's what some people will have you believe.

NICS only hurts bad people, so you must be a bad person.

Suggestion? write to your congressman, tell him that NICS should be shut down because it's broken. Shutting down NICS will never happen since even gunowners (especially the NRA) love infringement, but it might help you feel better.

Several factors WILL DELAY you. First off some background. There are several different data bases employed by the States, FBI, SS, BATFE, IRS...etc.. . Some of these data bases ARE PRIVATE-FOR PROFIT companies. Most of the times they have the data WRONG, INCOMPLETE or mistaken.

There is no motivation for them to get the correct or current data. In my case, they confuse me with a dead Uncle of the same last name who I quess was somebody important. I had to find this out by myself with FOIA requests via a private lawyer. They still have MY data mixed up with another.

How frequently you are background checked will also automatically delay you. Probably "cover your ass" mentality on the investigating agency. I'm always being check out for some reason or another...for nothing else than ME trying to get things CORRECTED. It seems to spin around and around.

It is only going to get worse. Already excellent answers given about I.D. theft. In Oregon, if I'm delayed (AGAIN) on the "instant" ID check for a firearms purchase, after I'm delayed the 3rd time (I think) the dealer can legally transfer the gun after waiting an additional 72 hours. Oregon tries to understand the problem.

Now they want fingerprint cards to re-up my medical licenses. Pure bullshiet in my opinion. My lawyer says it would take Magnum P.I. and $20 grand to research the entire problem with my situation and to FIX the problem via threat of lawsuits. Welcome to the computer data base age.
