I recently got out my uncles old Steven's 940A 12g.....it's been put up for a long time....when I shoot the gun (2 3/4 shell) the barrel breaches/opens after every fire...any suggestions on where to look or start

I would first check the breech unlocking/locking mechanism for wear, crud, etc.
In that type of single shot break open shotgun they're generally pretty simple.
Numrich has some parts for them.
