So after I created this thread about shotgun storage asking for input on how to lock up my shotgun at home without buying a gun safe, I bought myself a Mossberg Loc-Box. It's a wall-mounted box with a hook that goes into the receiver that the shotgun hangs on, then the box locks around the receiver.

I recently got a Tacstar 4-shot side saddle, but have since realized that I can't have both at the same time. With the side saddle on, the box won't close over the receiver because it's right where the box locks (see attached picture).

So now I'm trying to figure out what I want to do next. My options as I see them are:

• Keep the side saddle and get rid of the Loc-Box (not preferred, as then I'll need a gun safe)
• Keep the side saddle and cut off the fourth shell holder to make room for the box to close and lock, essentially making a 3-shot side saddle
• Keep the Loc-Box and get a magazine tube extension instead

What would you guys do? Any other ideas I didn't think of?

How does that lock box anchor to the wall? Is it really that sturdy or does it feel like it could be pryed off fairly easy? If you are just wanting to prevent operation of the shotty I would just use a cable lock through the action, but if you are trying to protect also against theft you would have to really ask yourself if a perp could just use the shotgun as leverage to pull the whole loc-box off the wall. If you decide to ditch the side saddle you could alway get a buttstock shell holder. The downside there would be some difficulty in ambidex use of the shotty. I'm kinda looking for a securing solution myself and my shotty also wears a side saddle. :sad:

That was my thought.

I am thinking a dremel/cutoff tool is need for some custom work, either on the shell holder or the lock it self.

Any way to cut a notch in the lock?

Yeah, I've considered this... I just don't really like the look of them as much as I like the clean look of the side saddle on the receiver.

The Loc-Box mounts to the wall with x3 3" screws into a stud. Then at the top, there is an L-shaped rubber-coated steel rod also screwed into the stud that the barrel slides over. So you slide the rod into the barrel and hook the receiver onto the box. It's pretty secure. As secure as a big heavy gun safe? No, but it does the trick, and is a better option to putting a cable lock on it and have it still able to just walk off.

The Vang Comp is only for Mossberg shotguns though. I have a Rem 870.

I don't really want to just cut and grind off one of the shell holders. I think I'm gonna ditch the side saddle and maybe look at a stock saddle. Any recommendations there?
