My mossberg 500 keeps engaging the safety every time I pump the gun. In doesn't go all the way but enough to where when I try to shoot a second clay I can't get the shot off. What usually causes this and how do I fix it. I am pretty mechanically inclined and have a goood amount of tools so I just need some guidance before I start taking this apart.

My dad had a 20 gauge 500 that did this, I believe he sent it back to mossberg and they replaced the safety.

needs the safety rebuilt it sounds like.

how long have you had the gun?

This usually happens after they've had a lot of rounds put through them.

It's an easy and cheap fix though, a new safety kit is less than 20 bucks if you just get the plastic button.

If you're familiar with doing a complete teardown on the gun it's pretty easy to do in about 10 minutes. So long as you don't have the damn one way screw holding the safety button on. Those are a pain in the ass to get off, I had to use an ez out on mine.
