[Bearded Boonie Hat]

Looking to up the carry capacity in my Maverick 88. Currently have one of those bandolier straps with 15 shells on it. It's alright, but I'm wanting be able to carry more. So, Rigid Side Saddle vs. Shotcards. Pros / Cons of each?

i have velcro shotcards from esstac and brown coat tactical. easy/quick to reload: just pull off the empty one and replace with a loaded card. they also fit in ar mag pouches. can’t speak to the rigid permanently attached side saddles as i have never ran those.

My 500 has the rigid one only because at the time, those velcro did not exist - (Yes, I'm that old). Personally, I find ammo on a strap to be unwieldy, especially if you are moving rapidly and it starts swinging around)

Yeah, I'm kinda over the ammo on the strap already. Leaning towards the Velcro Shot cards. Hopefully will get some under the Christmas this weekend. If not, post Christmas.

Thinking of grabbing some esstac cards. Wanting them to fit "flush" on the receiver. In your experience, what size would fit best, with minimal over hang, but maximum capacity?

i use 7-rd cards on my mossbergs and my benelli m4. i think u could probably squeeze an 8-rd card on there just fine but it would be pushing it. the 7-rd cards also fit nicely in the ar mag pouches made for 30-rd mags, with just enough hanging out to be able to grab them easily.

I started with rigid side saddles on my shotguns but after a few shotgun courses I am 100% for the hook & loop cards on receivers and/or stocks if possible. I've got 4 shell cards all the way up to 7 shell cards for my Benelli's, Beretta, FN, and Fabarm. Much easier to change out and they lay flat when not in use. Just my 2 cents...

If rapid re-stocking of your basic load is the goal, velcro is sure the way to go!
