I don't know if I could build one up for cheaper, but it seems like a good price to me. I thought about less expensive shotguns and trying to build them up, but trying to figure out what shotguns will take what excesories, ect seemed a bit time consuming and tuff to do. Plus, I own a 870 and like the gun. It's reliable and I know the platform.

John, That's a great HD shotgun - I bought one and have been very happy. They were hit-and-miss to find at LGS here and always at least $499 or more when they did appear. Your deal at Bud's sounds about what I paid on GunBroker from a shop in PA. Even the guy at the shop that did the FFL transfer here said "That's a cool shotgun!"

You're right - it has everything you want in a HD shotgun all set up and ready to go. I added a shell holder on the stock and that's all.

By the way, I hear good things about Bud's.

Waveform: Thanks for your input! I am glad you like it. I know I will like it also, but...I always get a bit nervous buying a new gun. I think that's part of the fun I was thinking about a shell holder, too. And, a light. Just not sure what I want to do. Think I'll try to shoot the h*ll out of it and then figure it out.

About 10 years ago a friend give me his 870 Express 12ga for helping him move (he wasn't "into" guns ). It had wood stock and foregrip and 26" vent rib barrel. I converted it to synthetic black, 18.5" HD barrel and added mag extender to make it my HD weapon. I can convert it back in minutes if I want a hunting gun.

Love the 870!

So...I did it!

Ordered the Remingotn 870 Tactical!

I do not know when I will get it. Filling out the paperwork Saturday. Can't do it on Friday, cause I am working. It is a 24 hour wait to get the gun after you do the paper work. I doubt Bud's will ship it before then anyways.

I have next week off, so hopefully a range report.

Hey Charlie - glad to see you here too! Going to do some shotgunning for doves Saturday if the weather cooperates. Had the hunt booked for 6 weeks now and this dang hurricane is chugging up toward Florida. No threat of impact but lots of wind and rain likely. Not best for doves. We'll go and see what happens.

You really can't go wrong with a 870

I have a 870 Express Magnum HD (basically what you are looking at but without the rail or muzzle device) and I love it. I have had it for years but have just started modifying it and there are so many accessories and different parts available it is awesome.

Sorry it has taken me awhile to post. But, I got it last week, cleaned it and took it out. What a fun gun!

But, 3" magnums suck...still sore. I am not use to shooting anything more than phesant load or targeet load. Guess I have to tuffin up
