I know that my next on the list is an auto shotgun. I want a S.P.A.S12 but it is out of the budget. So the runners up are the 1100 and 1187. I really like both but don't know which route to go. I want plenty of modification room. Which is the most prevalent in aftermarket parts? A little shot in the right direction would do me wonders! Thanks in advance

I have an 1100 I really like it and haven't had any problems with it. Persoannly I would find a used 1100 and pick it up. The 1187 is nice to but mire money for something you are going to change everything out on. You can do anything to an 1100.

1100's are great guns. My dad has an old 1100 wingmaster that he bough a very long time ago (has the etching on the side, gloss finish, beautiful). I have shot this with some buddies shooting skeet, always been a very nice gun. I'm too afraid to take it hunting, but it always goes bang, never has a jam, and can sit in a case for several years, then shoot without a cleaning.

If you want the versatility of shooting any ammo, go for the 11-87. With the 1100, you are limited to 2 3/4" ammo with the standard or magnum only with the magnum version. The update in 1987 changed the gas system and now the gun will shoot anything from light target ammo to 3" magnums.

I have a 11-87 Super Mag which shoots the 3 1/2" stuff. It is a little finicky with the 2 3/4" target ammo but functions fine with 1 1/4 ounce loads and up. Remington makes a part that allows the Super Mag to function with lighter loads it works pretty well. The drawback to the Super Mag is getting extra barrels for it. Remington does not sell them. Probably fears people will put them on regular 11-87 guns and have problems with ejecting and beating the receiver to death.

The main difference between the 1100 and the 1187 is the gas piston has a relief ring so the 1187 can shoot a broader range of ammo. If you don't need the 3" shells then I would go with the 1100. They are Farly simple guns and reliable if kept clean.

I would definitely prefer the 3 1/2'' chambered receiver. Probably wont be shooting much 3 1/2 but I like to have the option. The Baretta Xtrema 2 would be sick but I could get the SPAS for that. Sounds like the 11-87 super mag is in my future. thanks for the feedback guys

I've had an 1100 for almost 8 years now and I've done A LOT of shooting with it. I've shot trap and have hunted everything from squirrels to deer with it with no problems. I'd suggest the 1100 because you can find them for a good price and parts are easy to get. I've heard good & bad on the 11-87 but never anything bad about 1100s. 3 generations of hunters in my family have carried them and hunted very successfully with them. As for the 3" magnum capability, if you really want it get an 11-87 but there's nothing you'll hunt with a shotgun that you can't kill with 2 3/4" loads and I've never felt underpowered with them. Just my humble two cents. good luck to you.

As far as I know. You'll still see allot of 1100's at 3 gun matches and you'll get more modification options for it.

May I ask what the intended purpose will be for? What barrel length are you considering?
