Just Picked up a New 870 12 gauge 28 inch barrel. Also have a 20 in barrel that I'm going to Put on it while not shooting clays.

I got a mag extension I want to add, mostly for looks for now since im not ready to have the dimples pushed out. I decided to push then out since im not a fan of removing metal and dont like the hole it leaves. I'll probably have it done by a gunsmith.

My question is, can i just add the mag extension on while leaving the original spring and retainer? Again, for now its just for looks and the tube will by empty full time due to the stock dimples and stock retainer. I know the end cap has the small teeth on it but im not sure if the 870 is unsafe with just a screw on mag extension.

yes you can. it is safe to do what you want but you should really look into getting rid of the dimples and utilizing mag extension for more than looks.

I've been looking for a gun smith in my area, I do intend to use it for more than just looks, just need to find a gunsmith in my area. not in a real rush but looking forward to getting it done.

maybe ill just try it out myself, would just hate to ruin something by doing it wrong. ill post the outcome. thanks for the replies
