I Bought a new Maverick 88 a few months back and finally got it out today to shoot. I loaded 5 in the magazine and when I brought the forend back, nothin happened. The elevator won't go all the way down as it hits the metal piece on the right side. The piece that has the sharp point is it, it catches the shell rim. If I push in on the shell and release the forarm just a little back, then release the shell and bring the foearm back it releases the shell and elevator comes all the way down. It comes all the way down when empty, just jams when ammo is in the mag. What could cause this? Thanks for any help.

Yes I tried just one round as well. The piece is also seated in the hole, I took it apart twice to make sure and I can see it in the hole from the outside of the receiver. The end of the piece is catching on the rim of the shell and the little pointy piece about halfway is raising up and hitting the elevator as it comes down preventing the elevator from coming all the way down. I am posting a pic of the piece hitting the elevator on the way down stopping it. It only does this when ammo is in the mag.

Not saying that this might be the problem , however I had a similar problem the Barrel wasn’t seating completely. The nut that holds the barrel to the receiver has a keeper on it so you don’t lose it . I removed the keeper from the the barrel nut and reassembled it , worked fine after that. A fellow bird hunter told me me about this . Good luck !
