I know for superb shooters, shooting doves with a .410 is no big deal, but it was a first for me. This was an organized hunt in Southern FL and we were surprised by what showed up.

For whatever reason, we almost exclusively shot White Wing doves. These were some challenging shooting conditions with birds coming into large wooded field, and then going into evasive maneuvers when the first gun goes off.

I felt good getting 7 out of 16 shots and I attribute that to luck, and the fact that IMO White Wings are not as fast or nearly as evasive as Mourning Doves. They are also a good 50% larger, so that also helps. Lots of fun but always wish for more shooting!

Mourning doves next weekend at a different location and I think the 20 gauge will be more appropriate.

I have a 28ga Browning that I will fitting a 525 stock and forend to. I will use it next year for doves. I am going next week going to use either my 16 or 20 (mourning doves here in Ohio).

The b*st*rds taunt me. I walk out back and see 15 to 20 in our walnut tree, or out front and as many sitting on the electric lines.

I love the .410, and have loaded for it on a MEC 600JR. for decades.

After finding one of the rare K-Mart Marlins in 12ga. (which is an H&R Topper), a year later I found one in .410 like new. They say only 5,000 were made(serial number starts with a K). This was right before the Bowling for communists film maker forced K-mart to stop selling guns and ammo.

The only 410 I have is a Remington 870 Express that I bought like 20 years ago. I didn't used it in the last 9 years until two weekends ago. I missed a few shots but I still got a couple of white wings.

Very fun, but kinda expensive if you compare the prices of 410 vs 12ga shells.

I load all win aahs for 410. But a guy at my range, who also did, has recently started loading those orange mOnarch or academy shells. Cheddite hulls. He really likes them, and they do crimp better.

Unfortunately, everything except win aahs stick, in my 410 Kolar tubes. I have a Stevens 555 410 ou, like it, but shoot 90% of my 410 in a 682 with tubes at skeet. About 9 lbs, so swings smooth. The 5 lb Stevens is fine for dove, but the 682 is much much better for skeet scores with 410.
