I recently acquired an old Model 97 Winchester which I like a lot but it has had a rough life. Checked several Serial Number databases and it appears to be manufactured in 1907. It is a takedown model and the barrel extension is damaged. It appears the "action slide" has been cycled so much that it sawed through one side of the extension allowing it to "squeeze" the magazine tube and make disassemble difficult, which is why I am looking for a new barrel extension. The action seems to lock up good and tight when closed but feels loose when cycling the bolt. I guess I will need to get it looked at. Is there anybody in the Houston area that would be qualified to inspect this gun? I have talked to several Gun Shops and most have never seen one of these beasts.

It is a 12 gauge, full choke but I can not find a chamber length marking anywhere, any suggestions as where to look?

Cheers, Tommy

Check with Briley. They may not be able to work on it, but I bet they can point you in the right direction.
