well the gun show was a bust..... everything was skyrocket HIGH prices.. and they had next to nothing on feed for our children... i.e. bullets/ammo whatnot..

extremeley dissappointed, hadn't been to a show in years, and i kid you NOT, it was the same guys at this show from years before, down to the same exact spot!! bananas!!

anyways I digress... back to my predicament..

the ONLY thing I found worthy or should I say that has me tempted is one guy had an ol a$$ Winchester 1897!!! Pump-action shotgun.. I tried researching it on google and found info on it but wanted to some "live" feedback... the serial number pegs it as from 1906.. so its a bit beat up....ney... actually its more asthetic I should say.. wouldn't call it rust but its about 106 years old so the metals NOT shiny... pumping/working the action goes good not sticky or anything like that..

The best way I can describe it to you guys is that Its basically the equivalent of the mossy JIC version.. i.e. short pistol grip type.. so I would say somebody chopped off the stock and maybe some of the barrel as well? I haven't seen one like it yet online..

guy is asking $300....after drooling over it for an hour or so and going back repeatably to it.....almost to the point of p*ssing the guy/owner off(he tried yelling at me for taking it apart because I was working the barrel slot/pin, I of course FIRMLY held my ground and said I was NOT taking it apart)

but anyways....

what do u think fella's? I tried getting him down to $250 which I would of course just bought it.. but he wouldn't budge.... after heckling him som more, he said $280...

I am so tempted.. mainly want it for the joy of having a 100+ year piece of history, not too mention it jus looks bada$$, but hey google tells me the 1897 was beast of a gun, and chances are that it will still hold its own...

YOUR OPINIONS/INPUT is EXTREMELY WELCOME!!!

gun show ends in less then 8 hours...

to go back or NOT to go back....

remember I've NEVER OWNED much LESS FIRED a shotgun...so

to buy this piece of history or stick to my original plan of buying myself the mav 88 and the ALMIGHTY 590a1..

It would be kool for someone like me, but for your first I would get the 88 or 590A1.

Too bad to hear it was a bust. Most gunshows are. You HAVE to look at everything and know when you are getting a deal. I got a bunch of CZ52 factory mags still in the package for $10.00 a pop once when others had them at atleast twice that.

Ammo can be found cheap sometimes but you have to look at everything, not just skim it over. We got guys that have gen2 and gen3 po po turn in Glocks for $300.00 a pop and the ones I have seen all have been gone through and had all springs replaced before being surplussed. Cannt beat that at all since you can not destroy, let alone hurt a Glock.

FWIW I got some pearce +1 (+2 for 9 and 40) magazine extensions for my G37 for $2.00 less a piece at a gunshow than any online retailer had them for. Deals can be found, gotta have the peepers on though and not looking at the ladies lol....

ha, ha... what about both? the 590a1 and mav 88!!

[email protected] Boris, you speak the truth, packed with wisdom..

but trust I scoped out every table and talked to almost every dude.. there was some dude that had "surplas" ammo by the table.. all Bear Ammo brand. .but yeah I looked.. once I get my 1st I will grill you intensively for the 411 on the next gunshow!!

oh and girls? ha.. there was like 5 chicks and like 500 dudes!!

gunshow ends in an hour.. but i'ma jus sit my a$$ down and watch the packer game.. and let the ol 1897 slip away....

did I mention it looks like a "gansta" piece.. think shotgun from the Book of Eli..

[email protected], MUST STAY AWAY!!!

So what did you do?

I had a really nice M1897, 12 ga, 20" cylinder bore, takedown model, supposedly had belonged to the local PD but I never had documentation to prove it. I had if for about 20 years and took many rabbits and squirrels from the Michigan hardwoods when I lived there. It also did pretty well grouping Winchester slugs, though I never did take any deer with it.
