so i got this mossberg model 195 (12 gauge, bolt action) today in a trade. long story short- got to talking to my neighbor.... he wanted my old slot machine (i picked up for $100 a year ago) so he asked if i wanted this gun for trade. anyway now i want to mount a small scope and set it up for a deer gun. only problem is that it only has a small front bead sight and has some type of platform on the rear instead of dovetail.... and nowhere to put scope rings. i'm thinking my best option is drill and tap holes to mount a weaver rail but i need some advise-am i crazy or is this my only option? thanks guys.

p.s.-:?:anyone know what this thing is worth? i found one on gunbroker.com that had the bid up to $99 but there was two days left to auction. so it was kind of hard to tell if i made a decent trade or not. thanks again for any input.

Ok so an update, tell me what you think!--- got the gun into my smith...He knocked out the rear drift sight and drilled/tapped some holes. He also drilled/tapped the receiver (just in front of the bolt handle) and then mounted a new weaver rail. Then I had him heat and bend the bolt handle (change the angle a little bit) for clearance so it wouldn't hit the scope. And then I had him Duracoat the (whole) action and barrel. The gun is home now and so far I've pulled the bolt apart and painted the ("cocked") indicator with some high temp orange/red spray paint. And then got some high mount Burris scope rings and mounted my old crappy tasco 3-9x40 from off my marlin. I still need to strip and refinish the would stock, and then go see if the tasco will ever hold up.

But so far what do you guys think?

Sorry about the crappy iPhone pics

$220 for all the work done. Alot I know when you figure the gun was only worth $100 (give or take) to start. But I wanted something different that I hadn't seen before. And trust me-when I pull it out at the range, that's the reaction I get from everyone.
