I know I'm a little late to show.

But I've just heard of the Mossberg 500 JIC Just In Case Shotgun .

It comes in different flavors.

1. the Mariner - which is stainless
2. and the plain black model.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these shotguns?

It's a Mossberg 500; it's a solid, dependable 12ga shotgun.

As for the "JIC" package...

Personally, I'd rather have a buttstock than a pistol grip only, as it is much easier to aim, rack, and control the shotgun...but one can be added on for minial expense.

Not sure if the floaty tube is a bonus, either...one would think they could get a basic M500 for considerably less than the "JIC" model.

Well it has a cylinder bore 18" barrel and the pistol grip is so that it will fit in the tube.

Your right with the pistol grip, it will be a hand full to shoot.

But it's an emergency gun only, kinda bury it in the yard type thing.

Tube filled with emergency rations type stuff.

I won't be shooting it much - if at all.

For the price that they're asking for the JIC, one could easily buy a M500, a length of 6" PVC pipe, a couple of endcaps, some sealant, a case of MRE's and a few hundred rounds of buckshot.

But, hey, if it floats your boat, go for it.

I won't get into the sheer folly of burying a weapon for emergency use that you havent thoroughly tested.

Just another useless gimmick item from mossberg.
While the 500 is a great gun, the tube is just not worth the price IMO.
Get a 500 and add a pistol grip and call it a day.

lol, im just being honest.
Mossberg makes great guns but putting 50 cal muzzle breaks and chainsaw grips on shotguns is just....not my cup of tea.

Buy what you want,the only person that you need to justify the purchase to is yourself.

I picked up a 590 used some years ago, and put a folding tail with pistol grip on it. Get thee some pvc pipe and fittings and a post hole digger; you can bury a lot that way. Just picked up the hated "blackwater" 500 with the door breeching barrel, gonna find me a folding tailstock for it, too. Not planning to shoot skeet, though.
