How is the Mossberg 500 "The Persuader"?

I am looking to buy a shotgun to carry in my unit. If we have a personal shotgun, we can carry it at all times. Otherwise, the department will assign them out only for certain assignments.

So, I am considering the Mossberg 500 "The Persuader". The reason is because it seems to meet my expectations as being a good shotgun and also inexpensive. I figure later on, I can sink more money into it with the "extras".

Has anyone had any experience with this gun??? any feedback about the gun???

The Mossberg 500 series of shotguns is one of the best pump-action shotguns available. While I have always liked the Remington 870 for a pump 12 gauge, I would not hesitate to use or carry the Mossberg 500. You may want to look at the 590 though for duty use. The only thing that kept me from getting the 500 or 590 was the fact that my Dept's policy mandates the 870. A lot of guys prefer the safety on top of the Mossberg instead of Remington's button safety near the trigger.

This article on Wikipedia is pretty good: Mossberg 500 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The U.S. Marine Corps (and supposedly the Army, and the Navy) still use the Mossberg 500 in one form or another (They also use the Remington 870). Plenty of police departments issue, allow, and use the Mossberg 500/590. There are plenty of extras out there to tweak and/or otherwise customize the weapon to meet your needs. Buy and use the Mossberg with confidence.
I cam't speak for duty use but I have had a Mossberg 500AB, 5&Dime model for hunting for 25 years and it was a hand me down...Never failed me or my brother. Planning on getting a 500 with 18.5 or 20" barrle for home defense and competition. And as far as I know they are still widely used in the military.
In my agency the only authorized shotgun is the 500A. I know nothing of the persuader model, but I guarentee we've never had a failure with our 500As.
I went looking at the crusader this morning at my gun shop and fell in love with it
they were asking 499 without the tactical stock
I appreciate the input guys...
Thanks.

I have a 500AT with the blackpowder barrel conversion barrel. I'm-a get a security barrel for it, best price I have found is about eighty bucks.
You can't go wrong w/ a mossy 500. My personal preference is with 870s but there isn't anything wrong w/ mossbergs.
I find the location of the safety better on the Mossberg than the 870.
Mossy's are really good guns, but I prefer the 870 tactical. Bought mine as a stock 870 18" w/7 round mag extender for $240 from GM. Added the Knoxx recoil reducer stock w/pistol grip for another $80. That stock really makes a difference and is available for the Mossburg.

Either way, you can't go wrong with the Remington or the Mossburg - but my vote is 870 (that's what I carried in several departments and various assignments).
I like the safety on the Mossberg better than the safety on the Remington.
Of course I haven't laid my hands on it, but it seems that somene took an excellant weapon system and dressed it up soooooo much, that it may no longer be a wise choice.

I don't think I'd touch it with YOUR pole.

lol obviously it would stay next to the bed
With the pistol grip, it is brutal and
very punishing. I replaced it with a
shoulder stock, still shoot it from the
hip, but without all the pain to the my
hand. Overall, my Mossy 500 sits in an
honored place awaiting a call to duty.

Agency issues the Remington 870, but my personal Mossberg 500 has been a great gun. My personal preference remains with the Benelli Supernova Tactical with the ghost ring sights. If you have to purchase your own gun, get the Mossy.
MOssberg and other companies sell Ghost Ring sights for the 500...For duty use I would look into the 590...A little more money but built heavier, barrel etc...
i have a 14" 590a1 and it is a great gun. very durable. the only difference between the mossberg and the Remington is the safety and bolt release button, i dont think there is any difference in quality. i say just get the one you like the position of the bolt and safety
I have the Persuader model as well, and I also removed the pistol grip and replaced it with a shoulder stock. I have no complaints, it's solid and I haven't had a problem with it yet. I only wish I could find a 28" barrel that would work with the long tube!
