How Do You Shoot Skeet?

This came up yesterday when I was shooting Skeet with a group of friends.

Some of them shoot sustained lead, some swing through and some thought they were doing pull ahead.

Of course, most were essentially spot shooting low house #7.

Any thoughts on the best way to lead the birds?

For the most part, I use the swing through method. Incomers on 1, 2, 6, and 7, I use a sustained lead. Incomers on 3 and 5 is somewhat a sustained lead, but I always try and get incomers by/at the center stake. Just be sure to not try and hold any sustained lead for too long. More time for mistakes to happen. High 5 has cost me more than any target on the field. It once cost me a 250 X 250 in San Antonio...

Wayne Mayes espoused the sustained lead philosophy and you cannot argue with his success, but I could never pull it off for all targets. I was lucky enough to shoot a .410 event with him once in the early 90's. RIP

Consistency is the key no matter what method(s) you choose. More misses happen between the ears than anywhere else. :D
