Excellent find. The intruder was so drunk he didn't know what he was doing, no way of proving he didn't have further ill intentions. He's lucky the guy wasn't loaded with buckshot.

Why did the editor let ".12-gauge" slip in there?
wow that idiot is seriously delusional. he's acting like he's the victim.

and the homeowner needs to invest in some slugs :)
From the wannabe Vic

I've got long hair and tattoos and I just got off parole, so I'm the bad guy automatically," he said.

No **** sherlock...

and I also read he says you just can't shoot someone...unless they have a gun. Sounds like he's been makin it up as he goes for a long time

Ya gotta luv castle doctrine...makin crybabies outta punks daily
Good to hear the home owner came out ok. I agree he needs to gets some slugs or 00 buck at least.

I think the scum bag was still drunk when he was interviewed by the news paper. He thinks he is the victim. He even says so.

"I've got long hair and tattoos and I just got off parole, so I'm the bad guy automatically," he said.

Are you kidding me? No your the bad guy because you broke into someone elses home. Get it?

Just hope he now doesn't go looking for a payday seeing as how he is the "victim".
Shot 4 times with 00 and this would have a different ending.
reading the article, it sounded more like they interviewed the prosecutor and the BG. I doubt they talked to the victim. Buck shot would have kept the prosecution from getting confused over conflicting stories. atleast the BG had a documented history of alcohol problems and was drunk at the time.
I know, Im just adding fuel to the birdshot if good enough debate.
This should end the debate of whether birdshot is an effective SD shell...
Here's the key:
Police think the suspect was not more seriously injured because he was wearing heavy clothing that stopped some of the birdshot.
If you have a HD shotty, load it up with defense ammo, not target ammo. Remember, you need to stop the threat. Don't give me that crap about price either. Yes, SD ammo will cost more, but all you're doing is putting a price tag on your safety.

Imagine if this guy had been on PCP. A shotgun holds 5-7 rounds and this guy used 4 already for a drunk. He would have had 1-3 left. What if there had been multiple intruders? One guy took 4, if another takes another 4 and you only have 3, you're f'd!
Shot 4 times with 00 and this would have a different ending.
Hopefully he will change his load now.
If intruder were armed this might have ended more tragicly for the victim using bird shot. Glad it went the way it did.
I just got off parole, so I'm the bad guy automatically," he said......

No, your the bad guy because you broke into the mans house....
I'd say most of these would have been a viable option instead of the bird shot:
Shotgun Accessory Mossberg 500 Accessories Winchester Rifle Folding Stocks
Some of those loads are downright nasty sounding. Would really like to see a penetration review on them.
This is why my hd-shotgun is loaded with 3" #4 buck.

Shoot a bad guy with those four times and there's gonna be five pieces of bad guy all over...
This should end the debate of whether birdshot is an effective SD shell...
No it will not. Some people are just plain dumb. I have hunted all my life and have seen birds that weigh 2 pounds not die from a shot of birdshot.

Give it a couple days and someone will be right back here touting the virtue of keeping a gun loaded with birdshot for defense like it is some magic bullet.....
You can shoot someone in the face with a 12 gauge shotgun and they don't die. That is magic.....
Well if he came in my house that way he would be dead and my side of the story would be the only one the officer gets. He threaten my life.
Not even slugs do it all the time

Two charged in hunting accident - Canton, OH - CantonRep.com

Scott Boykin, 19, of Green was shot twice with a 12-gauge shotgun slug while hunting deer at 5:20 p.m. on Killinger Road, according to investigators. Boykin was taken to Akron City Hospital and is currently recuperating at home.

Deputies said Boykin and his hunting companions were hunting illegally. Two of the hunters were not wearing the required "hunter safety orange" clothing and all were hunting with a single projectile round, which is illegal in Green.
