Help identifying Mossy 500

2459 Views 14 Replies 1 Participant Last post by  ShotgunPro
I purchased a Mossy 500 at Academy on Wednesday, and I'm having a hard time identifying it. I even called Mossberg, and the girl that answered the phone put me on hold for 10 minutes while she "researched" came back and told me she couldn't find it. I know all of the shotguns have a name like Mariner, road blocker, persuader etc. The box has the item number 55200, but I cant find it on the website. ok on to the description and pics...
-ATI adjustable stock
-ATI pistol grip
-18" breach barrel
-3 rail forend

Looks like it started life as a 500 Cruiser and someone added the ATI gear ... or as a Chainsaw and someone took off the chainsaw grip and added the ATI gear.

I was thinking the same thing, but I looked in both 2010 and 2011 catalogs and couldn't find item #55200 anywhere. can't find a 2009 catalog online; might be a model from then (or earlier)
What's on the under-side of the receiver near the mag tube?
Can't help you with the model number. I got one with a breacher barrel but it was pistol grip only, so I put a side folder on it. You don't show the right side enough for me to tell. Mine says "Blackwater" which some people ridicule, but I don't really care about it. Does this one?
It came from the factory like this, nothing was added after market. I shopped around before buying it, and several Academy's have them in stock.

Must have been something Mossberg did just for Academy then. It's not one of their "stock" models.

I'm a moderator on www.mossbergowners.com. You could post it up over there and see if anyone else is smarter than those of us on here.

Can't be from those years, it has the "new" 2011 Talon pistol grip. The most logical answer is that it is something made exclusively for Academy like another person said. guess i'll never know
Its probably just a base 500 with the 26 or 28in barrel that everything was replaced on.

Only reason i say that is b/c the only thing mossberg is your reciever. and from a cost stand point its the only thing that makes sense

The barrel is mossberg, it is stamped with their info

Post it up on MossbergOwners.com • Index page There are some guys on there that make me look like a Mossberg newb.
its one of the "special purpose" 500's mossberg sells, not sure exactly which one obviously but they have them on the website.

and those grips just look like the hogue grips (I could be wrong)
