Friend found me a mosberg 500 - this a deal?

I told my friend to keep his eyes peeled for a shotgun for me. He found me a Mosberg 500 that has never been fired. It's super long with a wood stock and grip, and came with 3 chokes (a modified, improved and something else). All for $200... what cha think?

You'll probably ask what i want to use it for, and to be honest i'm not quite sure. I'll say Skeet shooting to start. I've never hunted for anything other than fish but i'd like to get into it..

Thanks,
Flashy

Sounds like a good deal. They are great starter shotguns. Go for it.
Sweet - I'll get it done. Plus, this way i don't have to pay tax :)

Thanks guys!
Make sure to get some pics up when you bring it home.
I paid $175 for mine.... and it had been fired more than never.

Get it.
with wooden furniture, I would say its a good deal.
with synthetic furniture, its an OK price.
Why not? good thing about shottys is you can change just about eveything. I thought mine was gonna stay pretty stock and in the HD locker. That changed, its becoming a shorty and gettign close to one of my ar's in price.
It has been done :)
I apologize for the crappy photo but here she is...

Thanks for the advice and encouragement!

That aint bad at all for $200 bucks. Id have done it
Get a spare short barrel for it and perhaps a mag extension and you'll have a nice dual purpose shotty.
Very nice! I have the exact same shotgun at my parents.

I agree on the short barrel. I got mine with both an 18.5" barrel and a 28" (fixed choke barrel). Unfortunately I don't think you can get a mag extension for it without also changing the barrel. I could be mistaken though (please let me know if this is the case because I would love to increase my 500's capacity).

$200 seems like a good deal for what you got.
there's not mag extension for the 500.

you'd have to just get a new magazine tube assembly...and for all that work and money, I think I'd just buy a new 8 Shot Maverick.

that Mossy looks a lot like mine when it's got the 28" barrel on. I assume the other choke is probably a full choke.

find a shorty barrel and enjoy it.
Brownells sells a kit, but it's on BO. If the Google-fu is strong in you, you may find it. For another $150ish, I think you did pretty good in a dual purpose shotty.

I bought a 590 and I kind of wish I had got the 500 for the versatility of that shotgun.
nice looking shotgun.
how does it run?
Thanks guys! I'm taking her out this weekend hopefully and will report back.
I like the idea of the shorter barrel for home defence... Are the barrels pretty easy to swap in and out?
