Cut shells...anyone have experience?

I recently saw a youtube video where an old timer took a regular 2-3/4" shell with birdshot and cut almost entirely around the shell between the powder and the wad. The claim is that this propels the entire shell beyond the cut as one piece instead of a spread of tiny bb's.

It looks cool and like it works. I have read others saying it works and have seen a lot of naysayers talking about too much pressure etc, although all of these were from people who had never done it.

I have also heard that this was mentioned and shown in the Magpul Dynamics shotgun video by Chris Costa. In any event, it is pretty cool to have as an option when a slug is not available.

So my question is has anyone here ever done this? What were the results?

Here is the youtube link...

I've never heard of that but it looks extremely effective.
looks kinda cool... but i dont think it would work with a pump or semi auto... it would have to be a breach style shotgun... but i could be wrong.
I think if you try that with a full choke gun, the end of the barrel is going to look just like the shot shell end shown in the last part of the video, SPLIT....... The old fart deminstrating the cut shell practice must have been using an improved cylinder choke which is "no choke". Be prepaired to ruin your shotgun and injure yourself when you try it.
Shotgun recievers are made like a pistol barrel at the chamber end. They are larger diameter up to the chamber's end where it is manufactured for either 2 3/4", 3" or 3 1/2" shells. Then the barrel is smaller diameter and at the choke end it is even smaller yet. This guy is forcing the larger diameter of the outside measure of the shell through the entire barrel. Something has to give. Be prepared for the "give" to be the choked end of your favorite shotgun. It could be split just like the wad this guy is showing at the end of the film.
I have seen my great grampa do this to kill larger game when squirrel hunting
been done but not in a full choke gun. and it will work in a pump or auto and the shell lifter will support it to the chamber. as long as you don't cut it in 2
Kicks like all h-ll

The video should have a dicsclaimer: "Do Not Try This At Home".
I had a buddy that did this the last time I was out at the range. I asked what he was doing, and he said he saw it on a youtube video lol. He did this with about 7 rounds through his Winchester 1300. The only problem he had was one of them ejecting, but other than that they shot fine. I wouldn't recommend, or do this out of my shotgun, but it was pretty cool to see at the range.
