I want to show off my custom Saiga 12 build. After several months of not being able to find any wooden furniture that suited me, I made my own. I got a laminated black/black blank and went to work with some files and sandpaper and this is what I came up with. I wanted a stock for it with a more English grip instead of a AK style grip, and because I'm in NY it had to be a thumbhole stock instead of a pistol grip. It took quite a bit of planning but I'm thoroughly pleased with the outcome.
It took me about 15 hours to do both pieces. The blank I got from the friends wife who works in the sales dept. of a local mill where they manufacture the blanks to supply several gun and sporting goods manufacturers, so I got it at cost. The same blanks can be found at Boyds and other sites. I don't think I would make one for anyone else because I'm sure the cost for the time involved would be cost prohibitive to all but the very wealthy. Unless you live in a state with restrictions like NY, it would be much more cost effective to get a bolt-on furniture set from Ironwood Designs or Timbersmith. It just wouldn't be one-of-a-kind custom, which is kind of what I was going for.
