When installing or changing choke tubes in my Beretta 694, there is a obvious difference between the effort required to remove and reinstall the extended choke tubes (Beretta Optima HP) into the top barrel when compared to the bottom barrel. Resistance is encountered when both inserting and threading the choke tube into the top barrel with the same occurring during removal. The bottom barrel inserts and threads smooth as silk. It almost appears that the top barrel might be slightly out of round. The gun was purchased new and this has occurred since day one out of the box.

The chokes are greased during every change, barrel threads have been cleaned using Beretta's "Optima HP" thread chaser and I have tried switching the chokes from barrel to barrel to no avail. The bottom choke tube still installs smooth as silk, the top barrel not so much.

Any thoughts or ideas on what's going on and how to correct are appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds as though the top barrel choke threads are not done properly...take the gun to a gunsmith that you trust and get a professional assessment of the top barrel choke threads...they may be installed "out of round" to the bores axis...
