I'm in WA State.. my solution is to carry a mini 14 with loaded mags not inserted.. legal here. I carry it and not a shottie in case I am in a mass shooter situation while about town. 5.56 penetrates soft body armor
I`m a Texan but work out of state and laws may have changed but, yes it WAS legal to carry in a vehicle. Google Texas Gun Laws and it will bring up all current laws pertaining to firearms. I don`t want to get you in trouble. That being said, in rural areas about every pick-up has a gunrack in the back window with one or two long guns in it. Don`t see it in the metro areas because people will break the back window out and steal them.
I grew up in Texas in the 70's I remember you could have a loaded gun in the car/truck as long as you crossed county lines. I had heard they had changed that a few years ago.
Like olhippy said, google Texas gun laws and check. its always safer to be sure!
According to this...there are no restrictions for long guns in a vehicle in Texas.

Texas Gun Law FAQ

I always understood that as long as the gun is the legal length (barrel) there were no further restrictions. I used to carry my pistol grip 1300 Defender...loaded and chambered...behind the seat of my truck until I got my CHL; then I started carrying a pistol.

If you're still unsure, just give TXDPS a call. They'll tell you straight up if its legal or not.

What is the source to the link you provided? I selected Home but no URL found?

BTW, it is legal to have handgun concealed in POV (w or w/o CHL), i. e. Castle Doctrine.
