i bought a remmington 870 tactical today, and now i'm looking for a good 6 round shell holder put on the side of it...any suggestions for a good brand/type...? thanks guys.

p.s. are they easy to install yourself?....i'm no gun smith by the way.

Wilson Combat makes a 6 round side saddle I believe. I have one in a box to put on still. I should get to that.

MESA Tactical. And yes, they make awesome stuff for shotguns!

However, the TacStar side saddle is a good unit for the price.

i agree for the price the tac star is pretty good. i have one on my mossy and its held up well. install is very easy, just make sure to get some loctite for it or the bolts will loosen up when shooting 00 and slugs

I have the tacstar and so far its held up pretty good. As for the install, it was super easy. Just take the new bolt and use that to push out the old pins and then lock-tite them in place. The directions are pretty self explanatory.

I had a Tac-Star Sidesaddle. It held up nicely... At first, but I am a heavy shooter, mainly shooting 2 3/4 inch slugs, atleast two boxes a week. And after about 3 months the six screws holding the actual saddle together came apart and completely just broke off the gun. Leaving a cool metal plate on the left side of the gun held by the two (bolts?) to the receiver through the trigger grouping.
I'm not sure I can standby something that comes apart like that. But it held the shells decently.

I too have the Tac-Star and I've put hundreds of rounds of heavy shot though my gun and it has worked time and time again. I thought about getting the other higher priced brands and went with the Tac-Star because I just wanted to try it out and it kinda stuck. I would get a Wilson or a Mesa in a heartbeat if my Tac-Star failed though.

I've seen that happen more than once during the shotgun courses at Front Sight. That's why I run a Mesa side saddle. I don't need the hassle.

I Have the tac star its held up to probably 2000 rounds of bird shot and 500 or so 00 use RED loctite on the bolts, I also welded the shell holder to the piece that attaches to the shotgun.
