Hey all,

I decided on the Remington 887 Nitro Mag Tactical, and my wife bought it for me for valentines day. I haven't had a chance to shoot it until recently. I had read some negative reviews about this gun on the internet. I think they were based on the longer barrel version, because this one is solid. There is a little bit of flex in the fore-arm because it is a composite, but that is all.

Well, I took her out to the range and ran the piss out of her. About 200 rounds of every kind of shell I had in my Ammo can. I ran Winchester, Remington, 2 3/4" buck, 2 3/4" Slugs, 3" buck, 3" slugs, 3 1/2" buck, 3 1/2" slugs. I ran them in the order that I grabbed them out of the ammo can, which was random. No hiccups at all.

Although the 3.5" slugs were a suprise to my shoulder, they did not affect the gun at all, she fed everything and kept on chugging. No difference in feeding between the shells.

She holds seven 2 3/4" shells in the tube and five 3 1/2"ers.

The front hi vis sight and full length vent rib makes shouldering and aiming the weapon very easy. The accessory rail made it simple to throw the EOTech on and hammer out a few rounds. The barrel never got more than warm to the touch, and the action is smooth as an 870. IN fact, if I were blindfolded I would have thought it was an 870, same weight.

I don't have my target to share because I gave it to a fella at the range who was new and didn't know he had to bring his own target/stand.

In all, I think you get a lot of shotty for the money.

I picked up one last month and like you really like this shotgun. It was a toss-up between the Remmy and a Benelli's SuperNova Tac. But the Benelli was not to be found anywhere (brick & online). My local range/gun store I go to was able to get the 887 in so I was more than happy to give them my business.
They only allow buck and slug on the range so that is what I threw downrange. Quite pleased with the look and feel of this gun and expect it will last a long time.

I got a full size 887 for christmas from the wife for turkey / goose hunting and I love it! That gun has shot 3" and 3 1/2" with no problems. I "felt" the 3 1/2's during turkey season but during goose couldn't tell a difference with all the clothing on. Recoil pad is nicer then the wife's supernova. Only problem I have had was a jam with Fiochhi shells. No problems with any other ammo though...

If it is the same gun as in the OP (887 tactical) thats a great deal.
They start about $450.
I was wrong. Its the regular black. And it was $369. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the tactical anywhere, and I had cash from selling my xd so didn't want to order online. I got the regular instead. Cabelas had tactical in camo, but that kinda defeats the point of being "tactical."

Thanks. Can't wait to pick it up tonight! I'm taking it to the range tomorrow, though I'm not sure if I'm going to start with 3 1/2 inch shells just yet. I looked at the Benelli Nova as well, but didn't like the action. A lot of people have said it rattles, and I think I figured out why--the slide release is in the forend, so there's a button, spring etc inside which probably gets loose over time. I like the trigger guard slide release on the 887 much better. They had a used 887 for $275 but the fiber from the front sight was missing, and didn't want to have to dick with it.

While I was at Cabela's, they had a used long gun section that wasn't behind the counter. I fondled a Kel-tec SU16C which has the folding stock and can be fired with the stock folded, forend becomes a bipod, pretty cool, looked new and was $599. For $335 they had a tricked out but heavily used Norinco SKS--Nice scope, extendable/collapsible stock. For $399 they had a used AK. Had a new AR-7 for $199.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I like that the 887 comes with the new remington supercell pad, its a lot softer than the pad on the benelli nova.

887 tac

just got home with mine, love at first sight, traded in my old 870 marine that had issues, i have been trying to sell the 870 for $425 for the past 4 months with not one bite, so a trade for a brand new shotgun seamed like a good deal, for some reason the 887 came with a aimsport 150 lumens light in the front rail,

Sweet deal. Last time I took mine apart for cleaning, I swapped the rail to the other side. Easier to hit the light for me.
