Failure to eject shells

I have a 12 gauge Yildiz over and under. I've put over 1,500 rounds through it and I love it. The only problem is that shells sometimes do not eject from the lower barrel, particularly with some shells. I clean the gun every time I shoot and I generally shoot 100 to 150 rounds in a day. I've read on some of the forums about polishing the chamber with steel wool wrapped around a dowel or a wire cleaning brush. Has anyone done this successfully and is there any risk of damage to the gun?

Howdy! What part of The Gunshine State are you in?

Before you go polishing a few questions
1 - what ammo are you using?
2 - Does this only happen with one brand?
3 - Is it one of the real cheap Winchester promo crap from walmart?

As to doing damage - maybe if you have a chrome chamber and how you go a bout it

I'm in Bradenton and shoot at Ancient Oaks.

I shoot mostly Federal from Walmart and haven't had many failures with it until recently. I believe the type of Federal they sell may have changed. The boxes are different anyway. I have a lot of problems with Winchester Universal and Rio. I've read online that Winchester is noted for this problem so I don't get it anymore.

I seem to be having problems with all brands, especially the cheap stuff. Federal from Walmart has been good up until recently. The Federal base seems to be different in the stuff I now get at Wallyworld. Winchester Universal really is horrible.

I shoot 100 to 150 rounds a day when I shoot so I need to find less expensive ammo.

I'm thinking I should take my gun to a gunsmith for any polishing of the cylinder.

Universals are about the worst ammo period, and especially for this issue in many brands of guns

With that volume, you should be reloading. Buy a flat or two of good Remington Nitros - shoot the factory stuff for tournaments and save the hulls to reload for practice. With a MEC Jr., you'll be able to easily do 4-6 boxes in an hour and if you buy components in bulk, your cost will be about $4/box for 1oz loads. Drop your load to 7/8 or 3/4, and your savings go up from there.

I have never had any issues with RIOs in my O/U or my gas gun. Those can be ordered online from Academy . The Federals from walmart where I live run about $6.50/box plus tax. That almost puts you in AA or STS territory if they are on sale.

Before having a smith polish, run your finger around inside and see if you feel any roughness.

Yildiz has the same design ejector system as Beretta Silver Pigeon 1.

My local Walmart handles Estate target shotshells now at $21.74/4pack. I like them better than Wally World Multi-purpose Federals or Winchester Universals. I had a Yildiz O/U and it would digest everything including Winchester Universals.
