Winchester 1200 trigger won't reset

Hi everyone,

Newbie to this forum here. My apologies for the weird username, thought I was typing my email (which I butchered regardless)

Name is Aaron.

sorry for the lengthy intro.

I have a Winchester 1200 I recently bought at a pawn shop. I shot it and it worked fine. It had extended tube, polymer stock etc so I spent a bit of money and restored to the original condition (or close to it) using original wood furniture, got rid of extended tube etc.

I must have screwed something up when putting the trigger group back in the shotgun. The trigger is stuck in fire position and will not reset.

I am not familiar with this trigger group enough to take it apart.
I played around with it but to no avail.

Any suggestions short of taking it to a gunsmith?

Thanks in advance!

Aaron

Welcome from Florida!

I am sorry I don't have anything in the way of help for you. Hopefully someone will be along shortly to render some aid.

Does the owner's manual give any insight? I know some guns want the trigger group cocked, others do not as far as removal and installation.

Had one for years. Make sure the shell stops fit into the recesses correctly at the bottom front of the receiver. Before installing the cross pin. You may have bound something up. Remove trigger ass'y. Push safety of and pull the trigger with your finger in front of the hammer. If it falls you probably bound something up during re-assembly.

I have a matched pair 12 / 20 gauge skeet grade 1200's., I haven't done maintenance on them for a while but seem to remember having the hammer cocked and the fore arm pulled forward when reinstalling the trigger group. I'm no gunsmith but it sounds like you've got a bind between the bolt assy and the trigger group. BTW, DON"T take the trigger assy apart. You'll regret it.
