My only ported gun is my 2nd generation BT99. Don't know why it was ported, unless the previous owner was really fast and could drop in another shell for doubles and wanted less muzzle jump
I don't clean them, I keep hoping that some day they will completely clog up.

What is wrong with pipe cleaners?

I found that pipe cleaners dipped into Choke Tube Cleaner works well for scrubbing the ports clean.

While that works, I really find it to be a waste of time......

I have had trap guns both with and without ports. I cannot see any benefit from ports. Just a pain to clean. Yes, I still clean them because they are there! LOL. I use pipe cleaners with gun solvent. There are brushes available but some can damage the bluing.

Ports make a very distinctive sound when you fire your shotgun.

Mrs. Flash said she could always tell when I was nearing the end of the SC course because she'd hear my gun.

I could always tell a ported gun when reffing FITASC; the lateral noise is a LOT louder.

I too have a Browning 725 w/ported barrels. I clean them with pipe cleaners and gun solvent. I clean them because they are there and they get dirty. This is the first trap gun I had with ported barrels and I do not see any benefit.
There are port brushes available but be careful as they can damage the bluing.

Which is why a simple wipe down with a rag with a little oil will suffice
