MEC 8567 Grabber Spindex Issue

I have the above reloader. Have used it for many years with no issues until very recently. I load 20ga and reload STS hulls. Have reloaded many thousands with few issues until...my spindex comes off the pin and gets stuck to the top of the new hull on station 4. I have to pull the spindex off the hull and put it back onto the pin. When the hull is finished on station 3, it looks normal. I then move it to station 4 and that is when the spindex issue happens. Maybe 10 times out of 200. And when I pull the spindex off the hull after the initial crimp, the shell is not perfectly round. There is a squareish look to the crimped hull. I have replaced the spindex and the ball pin. I asked MEC and they don't know what is going on. Anyone ever have an issue like this? Thanks.

Sounds like you have the crimp start spindex set too low. When done the crimp start station the crimp should still be open about 1/4 ".

Yeah, around the same size as a pencil eraser is about right.

Sounds like the spindle is just worn; new ones aren't expensive.

While you are waiting for the new part, put a little piece of a plastic bag over the ball pin before you pop it back on. It will give you a little more mileage.

Replace the spindex. They wear over time, and if they repeatedly come off, the only solution is replacement.
