Angry Savage 30D, wont hold shells in tube magazine! Help!

Not sure why its happening but the shells wont stay in the tube causing it to feed and get stuck under the gate. I got this thing at auction (its actually a CIL 621 but the crossover is Savage 30D). Its not like a Mossberg where there is actually a shell stop arm thingy. What the heck?

If it is indeed a 30D, it should have a cartridge stop lever. See the parts breakdown on gunpartscorp.com, used to be known as Numrich Arms.
12ga part number is 117170A, 20ga is 399290A. They also have parts lists and schematics for this gun.

Looking at it again I see how that cartridge stop works. I see it stops the next shell when the action is to the rear. It cycles just fine. I just didnt understand how it worked. Thanks for your help. Still need to go fire it though.

Ya, its doing the same thing. It chucks shells and feeds improperly. Something is wrong. Fires though. Thats good.

If you have not resolved the problem yet I have a bit of information. I bought a .410 gauge model 30E after looking for one for years. It would get rounds under the loading gate and hopelessly jam every few cycles. The problem with this particular gun was that loading gate travel was controlled by a raised steel bump on the loading gate bearing on the softer metal of the trigger group casting. A dent had worn into the casting, letting the loading gate over travel. I tapped a hole in the casting under the offending spot, and installed a small fine thread set screw for the bump to bear on, then threaded it out till I got good functioning. 100% fix and hardly noticeable. The only real weakness in the Model 30 line is that pot metal trigger group in my opinion. It holds the stock in also and is just not up to the task. I will get out a steel trigger group for the .410 and properly harden it one day.
