all purpose shotgun

Hey guys, my gun collection was stolen and I'm looking to purchase one shotgun for all my hunting needs. I primarily just hunt dove and duck, what do you recommend, I prefer a 12 gauge autoloader and would like to spend less than $800 or so.

+1 for the Remington 1100. One of the few really good guns they ever produced.

Montefeltro

I started out the same as you last May (2013): $800.00 was my limit. I settled upon the autoloader, 12 gauge Benelli Montefeltro. It cost $1,100, but I am quite pleased with it.

I was always partial to pumps, so my suggestion is biased...870 Wingmaster was the best all-around model I ever owned. My best friend & I both bought one new in the mid 70's & shot lots of Dove & Duck, & a few Quail in our late teens & twenties. His was a plain bbl 30" & mine was 28" VR. Mine was stolen about 20 years ago, but he still has his & it still looks almost new.

I'd love to have that gun back, but with modern choke tubes.

Remington , Mossberg, or Winchester in 12 ga, and get a poly choke put on...Then you will have a true all propose shotgun.

Mossberg 500. Nothing shoots like them. I own many shotguns but this one is the one I always come back to. With interchangeable choke tubes and barrels it is perfect for a situation if you want 1 gun that can do all. You can buy a slug barrel with either sights or a scope rail attached. You can even buy a black powder muzzleloading barrel for it. You can pretty much hunt anything in any season.
